The Scala Santa located in Rome, Italy in the Basilica of St. John Lateran. The Holy Staircase consists of 28 marble steps, held by tradition to be the stairs Christ ascended on Good Friday, on His way to His trial before Pontius Pilate. They were the steps leading to Pilate's judgment hall, where Jesus was sentenced to death. The mother of Emperor Constantine, St. Helena, ordered that they be brought from Jerusalem to Rome in the year 326.
