"The symbolism behind the marker is of great importance to the members of the DAR. As noted on the New Jersey DAR website, "The official NJDAR insignia was adopted on May 26, 1891. Probably the most famous mausoleum in Spring Grove Cemetery, the Dexter Mausoleum was designed by James Keys Wilson and built in 1869. It memorializes Edmund Dexter, who entertained Charles Dickens in 1842 and whose portrait hangs in the Cincinnati Art Museum. The structure has lost a few pinnacles over the years; not to mention it used to have a towering ornate steeple in the middle of the roof.

Pre-Culloden Scottish baskethilt sword c.1690-1720Good chance this sword was used in the Battle of Culloden in 1746. The guard has the "S" design which stood for "Stewart" (noble family in Scotland) These swords were often stored in the thatched roofs to keep the British from finding their weapons. The handle is either horn or wood, and appears to be rehandled in the 18th c. untouched condition. Blade is 32 3/4 inches. 38 inches overall. Blade is still quite sharp.
