Isabella Lucy Bird (1831 – 1904) was a 19th century English explorer, writer and natural historian. Travelling widely in the USA, Asia, India, Australia and Canada, she rode on horseback (she was considered scandalous for not riding side-saddle!) for 800 miles through the Rocky Mountains and wrote a book about her experiences.
