Remembering History: August 1963 - leaving Otis Air Force Base after giving birth to Patrick Bouvier Kennedy. President Kennedy was by his baby son’s side for the three days and was with him when he passed away, saying “He put up quite a fight.” Usually stoic and unemotional, JFK openly wept and was deeply effected by the loss. After the funeral on August 10th, he was unable to let go of the coffin and the last to leave the church.
