This is the Boston Manufacturing Company built in 1813 by Francis Cabot Lowell in Waltham, MA with plans he stole from England. It was the first and biggest textile mill in America, powered by the Charles River. Girls as young as 10 were employed. The typical work week was 80 hours, 6 days a week. The factory expanded for decades but went out of business in 1930. It lay abandoned for more than 50 years, flooded and vandalized but in the 90s was turned into an industrial museum and office park.
