Drafted in 1940, Hank Greenberg was the first American League player to be drafted into WWII, his salary was cut from 55,000 dollars a year to 21 dollars a month. After being honorably discharged in Dec. 1941 (right before Pearl Harbor), he re-enlisted and served in the US Army Air Forces in the China-Burma-India Theater. He scouted locations for B-29 bomber bases for 45 months. Greenberg served longer of any major league player in WWII.
