In 1930, 16 year James Cameron narrowly survived a lynching that claimed Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith and inspired the famous song Strange Fruit. He would later found three chapters of the NAACP, serve as Indiana's State Director of the Office of Civil Liberties and found America's Black Holocaust Museum. Listen to a great NPR interview with him about that harrowing night and his miraculous survival: www.npr.org/...

#Reconstruction ~ In 1863, Secretary of War Edwin Stanton sent Northern Activist, Tunis Campbell to Georgia, to assist the army in resettling former Slaves; it was the beginning of a new life. He purchased more than 1,200 acres in McIntosh County, and established an Association of Black Landowners. Emancipation is finally real -- until white planters return to claim their lands.

On April 4, 1958, underworld bodyguard Johnny Stompanato was stabbed to death outside the Beverly Hills home of his girlfriend actress Lana Turner. While Cheryl Craine, Turner's then teenage daughter, claimed that she stabbed "Handsome Harry" while defending her mother, skeptics have argued that it was in fact Turner who killed Stompanato, only to place the blame on her daughter who she knew would face minimal consequences.
