It is the oldest known olive tree on Earth, with a tree ring age of at least 2,000 years. Carbon daters have estimated it to be about 4,000 years old, and it still produces tasty olives today. It is 15 feet thick at the base, is not particularly tall, as olive trees go, but is, quite literally, gnarly. Totally gnarly. The trunk is magnificently swirled, knotted, and bulbous. This one may be the tree Pliny the Elder (23-79 AD) wrote of when mentioning a sacred Greek olive tree 1,600 years o...

In Japan, a rich tradition of body art, known as Irezumi, stretches back to approximately 10,000 BC. Tattooing was banned between 1876-1948, when the art form became associated with criminality and gang culture. But once prohibitions were lifted, tattooists were free once again to work without fear of arrest. Here, a Japanese man is pictured in 1958 with full body tattoos.

Archaeologists Have Made An Incredible Discovery At Stonehenge. Using powerful ground-penetrating radar, investigators have detected burial mounds, chapels, shrines, pits — and most remarkable of all — a massive megalithic monument made up of more than 50 giant stones buried along a 1,082-foot-long c-shaped enclosure. This changes virtually everything we thought we knew about Stonehenge. The news comes just a week after finding out that Stonehenge was once a complete circle . Sept. 10, 2014

# PANDORA was the first woman who was formed out of clay by the gods. Zeus commanded Hephaistos and the other gods to create a woman, Pandora, and endow her with the beauty and cunning. He then delivered her to Epimetheus, the foolish younger brother of Prometheus, for a bride. When he had received her into his house, Pandora opened the box which Zeus had given her as a wedding present, and released the swarm of evil spirits trapped within.
