November 13, 1974 - Karen Silkwood, a technician at the Kerr-McGee Cimarron Nuclear Facility near Crescent, Oklahoma is killed in her automobile while on her way to meet with a union official and a New York Times reporter to show evidence of the company's alleged negligence in protecting employees from plutonium radiation. The Federal Government will investigate her death. Her story will become a movie starring Meryl Streep in the title role.
