Time Magazine November 9, 1962 (The Cuban Missile Crisis and Nikita Khrushchev: The Adventurer) The U.S.’s testy relations with Castro’s Cuba reached a low point following the botched Bay of Pigs invasion. The U.S.S.R.’s Nikita Khrushchev came to the Caribbean isle’s aid with a plan to plant Soviet missiles on Cuban soil. That led to the most dangerous standoff of the Cold War—an exercise in brinkmanship and 11th hour diplomacy that, in TIME’s view, backfired on the Soviets.

11/26/02 - George W. Bush issued a humorous but sincere presidential pardon to a lucky turkey that otherwise might have ended up on someone's Thanksgiving Day dinner table. In doing so, he continued a tradition begun in 1947 when the National Turkey Foundation first presented Thanksgiving turkeys to Harry S. Truman. Truman donated a live bird to a local farm, where the turkey was guaranteed a long life.

"Girl with bound feet 1870-1890. The feet would then regularly be unbound, washed and kneaded, with additional pain often caused by beating the sole of the foot to keep the bones broken. The feet were then rebound – ever more tightly each time. Whenever the binding session was over, the girl was immediately forced to walk on her feet to crush them further. None of this was carried out with any anesthetic."

On 5 April, Lord Carnarvon died from a mosquito bite...in Cairo.[10] This led to the story of the "Curse of Tutankhamun", the "Mummy's Curse". His death is most probably explained by blood poisoning (progressing to pneumonia) after accidentally shaving a mosquito bite infected with erysipelas. Carnarvon's tomb, appropriately for an archaeologist, is located within an ancient hill fort overlooking his family seat at Beacon Hill, Burghclere, Hampshire.[11] @Wikipedia.com
