London’s Oldest Statue, C.1372 - This is King Alfred the Great (871-899) in Trinity Church Square, Southwark. The statue was moved to the Square in 1822 when it was build and laid out from Westminster Hall. It had been at Westminster since 1372. By 1822 it was concealed by two inns – “Heaven” and “Hell”.
