The Bronte Sisters, Charlotte 1816-1855, Emily 1818-1848, Anne 1820-1849. Daughters of a Clergyman, they lived in the wild, remote countryside of northern England. All three worked as badly paid schoolteachers. From childhood each sister wrote poems, and later novels. Charlotte wrote Jane Ayre, next Emily published Wuthering Heights. Anne's Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall followed shortly after
