The Grace Cup is said to have belonged to the abbots of Glastonbury. The abbey was dissolved during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII in 1539 and the last Abbot, Richard Whiting, was hanged, drawn and quartered as a traitor on Glastonbury Tor.
